Our client, Mount Carmel School approached us with a hope to gain a better understanding of
how to maintain Health Nutrition Records for students of Shiksha Kendra.
"Shiska Kendra" meaning Center for Education. It opened for the poor children from the slums
near Dwarka to get free education. Mount Carmel School opened their doors and heart to low
income families to send their children to get free education and a meal for the day.
Our challenge was to make a dashboard so that teachers can make a record of their nutrition
every day. We conducted a series of reports for their health being and related issues.
While working on this project, our research from the United Nations Educational Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) statistical records in India states that one fifth of the
population consists of children between 5-14 years period is major growth and development
among children. Hence, the study was formulated with the objective to assess and find the major
socio-economic correlates of nutritional status in that age group of children. In all age groups
most of malnutrition children belonged to the underweight category. Among boys, 30.7% and
18.1% belonged to stunted nutritional status. The nutrition status was positively correlated to
age indicating poor nutritional status of younger children. The results highlighted the higher
prevalence of malnutrition among younger children, therefore, younger age groups should be the
main target for nutritional surveillance and interventions.
Overall our contributions had a significant impact on students' health development as we were
able to gain the most valuable insight about the extent success at providing the Shiksha Kendra
students their health concerns. I was able to discover several important insights of the client
along with my group and learnt various techniques that are crucial while performing.
